Why is Rupture getting hype?:
- Rupture has built a cult following from slamming underground DJ performances and mixes
- His Soot Records label consistently releases some of the freshest music around: Donna Summer / Ove-Naxx / Leafcutter John / The Nettle collective / Rupture tracks & mixes.
- he has just released his debut album through Tigerbeat6 (Sept 27th) + 2 x EPs with remixes on their way
- he has a 'high class' tour with the Nettle group in UK in Oct - 'audio visual collaborative sets'
- he then has full-on dj/live shows (with support from Ove-Naxx) in UK from Nov 13th - 21st.

DJ/Rupture "Special Gunpowder" - Tigerbeat6
After countless compilation appearances and remixes, and numerous DJ
mix CDs, it?s startling to consider that DJ /RUPTURE has arrived at his
debut album only now. An envious musical run has seen Rupture taken in
by raggamuffins, punk technoids, indy hipsters, junglists, peers, and
austere critics alike. To many he is the new face of urban music--the
potent sound of genre bending and overcrowded city life, a post-cultural
broken mirror that mashes hiphop, techno, reggae, afro-cuban, spoken
word, bohemian rhapsodies, folk music, the chanteuse, breakbeats,
avant-garde noise, and jazz through the strainer of a DJ?s mentality and
emerges with one of the most concentrated and exhilarating debuts this
year. SPECIAL GUNPOWDER refuses to be anything less than a declaration
of musical independence, an intimate and complex work where pop
sensibility leaves the comfort zone to explore new directions. In short,
RUPTURE has traveled a world of sound to create one of the most soulful
albums by an electronic producer in years.

Mature yet energetic and full of surprises, SPECIAL GUNPOWDER proves
that Rupture is as confident with studio gear as he is behind the
turntables. Not one to shy away from multi-culturalism, the album
contains lyrics in three languages (English, Spanish, and French) and
numerous forms of delivery. Rupture sessioned with Western and Arabic
musicians in his Barcelona studio, augmenting his production with the
warm dynamism of live players. There isn?t a turntable in sight. (A
little known fact: before he left NYC for Spain, Rupture played in a
band with 8-time Grammy winner Norah Jones.)

With guest appearances by Ghislain Poirier and Kit Clayton, vocals by
Sister Nancy, Max Turner (Puppetmastaz), Arnaud Michniak (of French cult
experimental rock band Programme), ragga heavyweights Junior Cat, Wayne Lonesome, and Wicked Act, Eugene Robinson (of Bay Area avant-metal group Oxbow), and poet Elizabeth Alexander, RUPTURE has brought together the connections only he could have foreseen and woven them onto an aural tapestry that can be listened to over and over again, ad infinitum.
SPECIAL GUNPOWDER is major statement from one of the most forward-looking producers and DJs around.

Little is known about Ove-Naxx, a mysterious and extremely talented young musician from Japan's highly-evolved electronica scene. When asked for biographical materials, he simply wrote: "dirty monkey from Osaka Japan".

Osaka is Japan's capital of playful punk noise music (home to the Boredoms and many others), reggae / soundsystem culture, and offbeat humor, and Ove-Naxx unites these elements into an exciting sound all his own.

In 2003 he released a well-received EP on DJ /rupture's Soot label, and did a split album & UK tour with fellow breakcore prankster, Donna Summer, on the British label Adaadat. 2004 saw Ove-Naxx release a hot single on Shockout, Kid606's influential raggaoid sublabel of Tigerbeat6, and plenty of remixes for European and Japanese labels (Accelmuzhik, Death$ucker, theAgriculture, etc)

Ove-Naxx is pioneering a delirious take on raggamuffin drum & bass and post-modern Nipponese pop. Catchy synth melodies buzz inside fast-moving thickets of percussion. Reggae and video-game music are an obvious influence, as are Japanese harmonic systems. The overall sound can be compared to artists such as Venetian Snares, DJ /Rupture, or Squarepusher, but Ove-Naxx's superb production has a voice all its own. Meticulous sampling, nonstandard IDM flourishes, and psychedelic digital noise swell around uptempo reggae-flavored beats as funky as they are fractured. Ove-Naxx makes intricate pop songs and is unafraid to use distortion, speed, and mayhem as compositional tools.

Ove-Naxx performs his music live with a variety of electronics, often using bizarre masks and other odd props to complete his complex and cryptic sonic statements.
