Their backcatalogue is an intriguing journey of amazing looking & sounding split releases (around 10 with various mindmelt new hardcore acts) and now their 2nd album. More like pieces of art than traditional releases, Trencher are at the forefront of the ‘hardcore new-wave’ in the tradition of Uncle Lightening Bolt, Grandpa Wolf Eyes & Grandma Boredoms, they have developed into a genuinely original and visionary outfit.

One of the UK’s best kept secrets, they have played endless underground shows and support slots (Lightening Bolt / Wolf Eyes / Daughters) also giving people lovely surprises at experimental events like Overkill & Wrong Music etc. Now with their first full length through the international Southern Records network they are gearing up to explode onto a wider audience.. they will take you by storm.. word of mouth will be their secret weapon. ULTRE - debut album and live shows with home made instrument!

27_08-frontcover400x300.jpg

Here is what The Wire say about Ultre's debut album:

"The animation work of Finn McNicholas - aka Ultre - has been used on Warp's Works & 20th Century Composers tour, and Warp's influence is certainly in evidence in the rhythmic chassis of All the Darkness, with its intemperate bursts of squalid rhythm counterpointed by more placid sequences. However, what lends the album its individuality is his use of instruments made from metal and wire, as well as slightly bashed-about acoustic instruments such as the untuned piano that weaves unsteadily through "Nobodies Favourite". There's a nice contrast between the conventionally sleek, futuristic aura of the electronic components of these pieces and a bustling, clankier DIY element suggestive of creaky doors and busy toolsheds."

We've just had a run of Overkill shows featuring the stunning Ultre live set. Using a home made metal instrument, he bows out a distorted string sound, looping and layering and fingering before your eyes its an imrpovised treat,, then come the beats :-) Its a unique live set that gets better each time you see it. An excellent support show for interesting bands & live acts that fits comfortably in clubs and theatres alike.

ULTRE IS AVAILABLE FOR LIVE SHOWS NOW.
