close face 06_430.jpg

Clark (formerly Chris Clark) returns with an astonishing new album, 'Body Riddle' released Oct 2nd '06 on Warp. After a long period of studio experimenting, Clark has developed one of the finest albums we've heard in 2006. Blending live instruments, chunky drums, huge melodies, electronicness and that Clark precision magic, he has produced his best work to date. Clark is currently playing alot of live Euro shows, some select events get to witness the new set with live drums.

Clark, Body Riddle Press Release:

Shortening his name to Clark and channeling his always restless creativity into Body Riddle, his new longplayer, Chris Clark returns. By hijacking the conventional live instrumentation of rock, draping it in the cloak of electronic composition and running it through the kaleidoscopic filters of krautrock, sunburnt psychedelia and musique concrete Clark has created a force to be reckoned with.

Album opener “Herr Barr” is a curious bit of chunky mutant funk that explores what might have happened if Liquid Liquid played Dusseldorf in the early 70’s using Kraftwerk’s homemade synthesizers. “Herzog” takes the heavy yet melodic analog fuzz of new-jacks like Justice and Simian Mobile Disco and re-casts it as a sweeping prog-rock cloud. The damaged disco bounce of “Ted” will appeal to even the most timid of dancefloor crowds, despite its underlying bizarreness. “Vengeance Drools” twists driving post-rock that recalls Tortoise, This Heat and Silver Apples at their toughest.

From undulating analog masterpieces to skittering melodic curveballs, Body Riddle is far and away one of the most original albums of the year, filling a void left in electronic music by the absence of true risk-takers. A perfect balance of abstraction and focus, this record should place Clark firmly among the ranks of maverick artists whose influence spans oceans and genres. Recent tours and performances with post-rock giants 65daysofstatic and Tortoise have sent the clear message that like these bands, Clark will not be pigeonholed.

Body Riddle tracklisting:
01. Herr Bar
02. Frau Wav
03. Springtime Epigram
04. Herzog
05. Ted
06. Roulette Thrift Run
07. Vengeance Drools
08. Dew on the Mouth
09. Matthew Unburdened
10. Night Knuckles
11. The Autumnal Crash

DJ Scotch Egg - Stepping it up for 2007

scotchface.jpg

We thought it was about time we officially welcomed the notorious rave ringmaster and general troublemaker DJ Scotch Egg to the Littlebig ranks!
The Egg is a long term Overkill collaborator who left a blazing trail around Europe on the recent tour, the same on a recent Japan tour, he has another tour with trencher in April, 2 awsome albums just about to drop and a packed diary full of club & festival dates around the world.

Contempary composer or comedian, punk or intellectual, madman or genius. There are many mysteries surrounding the bearded nomad otherwise known as Shigeru Ishihara. One thing however, can be guarunteed. This man can take a rave and flip it on its head, spin it back to the Reneissance period then drop kick it way into the future.

Scotch2.jpg

For the past few years he has been tearing up soundsystems worldwide with nothing but a pair of Gameboys, a mic and a distortion pedal. Far from this minimal setup being a hinderance, this combination of lo-fi electronics, technical wizardry, and a KFC bucket-sized portion of raw musical talent has resulted in some of the freshest and most innovative music around.

Expect to see some select festival shows this year with his new project, involving multiple drummers poached from bands Trencher, I'm Being Good and Charlottefield. Check out the Scotchausen video here, produced by Nothing To See Here and directed by Steve Glashier, supporting the release of his second album Scotchausen due on Adaadat, Very Friendly and Wrong Music imminently. With releases also due on Load Records and a hectic live schedule, the 8-bit attack steps up a level for 2007!
