Hella: New Ipecac signing join the roster!
September 27, 2007

We’re very happy indeed to welcome Sacramento’s newly expanded and reformed experimental rock outfit HELLA to our ranks! Their latest album ‘There's No 666 In Outer Space’ sees longtime Hella members Zach Hill (drums) and Spencer Seim (guitar) joined by an extended line up. Most notable is Nevada City-based butcher-come-singer Aaron Ross, plus new guitarist Josh Hill (Zach's cousin) and bassist Carson McWhirter, who were in fact in a pre-Hella band alongside the aforementioned duo.
The result is precise and frenetic, with Spencer’s wild riffs and solo’s propelled by Zach’s relentless hyperspeed drumming, and formed loosely into song structures by Aaron’s vocal additions. Its refreshingly different in its approach, and caught the attention of Mike Patton, who immediately signed them to his label Ipecac…
Having toured with hardcore band Dillinger Escape Plan in 2005, and spending most of this year blowing away huge audiences far and wide on tour with System of a Down and The Mars Volta, you’d be forgiven for taking Hella to be some sort of indie metal outfit. Quite what they are I struggle to articulate, but its fresh, original, and getting bigger by the day…
