(violent sounds from violent fans, enemies, journalists, publicists, peers, and the kid) I'm getting tired of these "complex" artists. Complex is OK if the sounds have some musical quality. This guy has no talent -- unless the ability to string together bleeps and machinery hum is considered to be quality "music". You have to have a sense of humour to appreciate it, but I just love it. It's the sound of one man just being a right noisy bastard and making a bleedin' racket, in a creative way. This inaccessible stuff is what gives electronic music a bad name. Whatever happened to driving bass lines, rocking drum machines, and euphoric melodies?

Formed in August of 2007, the San Francisco trio of Jacob Long (bass), Daniel Martin-McCormick (vocals/guitar) and Damon Palermo (drums) has already issued a handful of limited 12" records on Lover's Rock (their own imprint), White Denim, and Hoss (not to mention a remix they did for Telepathe on Merok) as well as their first full-length "Watersports" and the "Echononecho" single on Quarterstick/Touch & Go in early 2009.

Whilst finishing up a new album for Warp, Mira Calix has been building on the hugely successful collaboration with the London Sinfonietta by developing a smaller offshoot live project (booking showcase performances now). Mira is constantly DJing around Europe - from ambient / experimental nights to kick ass danefloor mayhem. Her solo live show has built into a force to be reckoned with - intense distorted electronic rhythms (with plenty of subbass) rolls under inventive melodic structures - unique visuals accompany the sound making it unforgettable.

Richard Devine is the king of DSP, the guy who invented the flanged jitter beat. He constantly remanipulates his sound to bombard the brain with a style that will still be fresh in the year 3000. Devine's live shows across Europe and the US have shown a whole new level of mastery of his style taking elements of techno, electro acoustic and jungle but remapped through his pure electronic futuristic filter.

Wolf Eyes are at the forefront of a quickly expanding American noise scene. The trio fronted by Nate Young & John Olson and now Mike Connelly (Hair Police), are the epitome of the self-sufficient musical entity. They have their own labels (American Tapes and Hanson Records respectively) that have been releasing cassettes, CDRs, 7"s, LPs and just about every other format. And they've since released albums on Bulb (Dread, 2001) and Troubleman Unlimited (Dead Hills, 2002). The music that Wolf Eyes creates is truly intense; Sonic touchstones include Throbbing Gristle, early Cabaret Voltaire, Black Flag, Whitehouse, Pre-Asheton Destroy All Monsters, Negative Approach, Swans and early Sonic Youth. The advocacy of the latter has led to many opening slots and a spot on the entire 2004 Lollapalooza tour.

The sheer force this young artist (she is only eighteen) injects into her compositions almost beggars belief, her songs consuming every last drop of her with no regard for grace or beauty. Then again, the 14 deeply melancholic compositions of piano, crackling electronica and inimitable vocals which oscillate between a whisper and a scream, are so drenched in beauty and gracefulness, one could crumble on hearing them.
